Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Signs Law Prohibiting Sale of Lab-Grown Meat
In a bold move that has ignited debates about the future of food production, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has signed a law that bans the sale of cultured meat produced in laboratories. This measure, known as SB 1084, is seen as a direct rejection of the World Economic Forum’s push for the consumption of lab-grown meat as a solution to global food security issues.
During a press conference held in Hardee County, Governor DeSantis emphasized the importance of supporting local farmers and ranchers in Florida. He stated, “Florida is standing up against the global elite’s plan to force cultured meat on the world to achieve their authoritarian goals. We must continue to invest in our local agriculture and protect the integrity of American agriculture.”
The signing of SB 1084 marks a significant milestone as Florida becomes the first state in the country to pass legislation banning the sale of lab-grown meat. Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson also voiced his support for the governor’s decision, denouncing lab-grown meat as an attempt to undermine traditional agriculture practices.
As part of the state’s efforts to support its agricultural industry, measures such as modernizing the Florida Right to Farm Law and simplifying sales tax exemptions for farmers on agricultural materials are being implemented. Additionally, the Rural and Family Land Protection Program will receive $300 million in funding for 2022 to protect farmland in Florida.
With over $2.8 billion allocated to the agricultural industry in Florida, Governor DeSantis and state legislators are committed to maintaining a strong and prosperous agricultural sector.
