On 11 July Eni announced that Gazprom has reduced gas supplies to Italy by 30 percent, which in absolute value is equivalent to 10 million cubic meters per day. The reason given is that, due to the sanctions, there would be no spare parts for the maintenance of the pipelines.
On the same day, the ministry of ecological transition stated in a statement that the government maintains the state of early warning necessary for constant monitoring of flows to avoid emergency measures.
According to the latest forecasts on the flows of Snam, one of the main European operators in the transport and storage of natural gas, to date gas flows from Algeria would be more than double those arriving from Russia. At the dinner with the foreign press, Prime Minister Mario Draghi declared that “Italy’s dependence on Russian gas has greatly decreased. It was 45 percent of imports last year, now it’s 25 percent ”.
Meanwhile, according to the annual report of the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment (Arera), in 2021 the consumption of natural gas increased by 5.6 billion cubic meters, reaching 74.1 billion cubic meters (+8 , 1 percent compared to 2020), while national production recorded an all-time low, falling by 16.7 percent compared to 2020.
