SALERNO – The mayor Vincenzo Napoli thunders against the shores that widen and raise barriers beyond the allowed (and aesthetically acceptable) but forget that the accesses to some free beaches in the city are impracticable. The most emblematic case is that of the small beach of Torrione, in the stretch of water in front of the Angelucci Barracks, where the ladder has been practically unusable for months due to the erosion of salt and waves and, above all, the lack of maintenance. A sign that seems brand new starts that below the Lungomare there is a portion of free beach: it is a pity that the access is closed with lots of heaps of building material waiting to be used. After the reports of citizens and the images that show how, with the beach grown as a result of nourishment, some beaches (between Pastena and Mercatello) have taken advantage of the situation by extending their “range of action” even to beach areas that should not be affected.
“We have banned free beaches, not those occupied by old state-owned concessions. I will report to the Port Authority to verify that they are respected », assures the mayor. Translated: the Harbor Master’s Office is asked to ensure compliance with the state-owned concessions prior to the nourishment project, therefore, private individuals who enlarge or even – raise fencing barriers eroding pieces of free beach are outlawed. In the meantime, this morning, the awarding commission will evaluate the 35 offers that arrived in response to the tender for the management of some services on the city’s free beaches.
The economic offers, which could not be less than the sum of 2,500 euros, were concentrated on five lots, that is, as many free beaches: the beach between the Conchiglia bathhouse and the former Youth Hostel; the beach between the parking area after the Polo Nautico and the Colombo bathhouse, the beach between the Nuovo Mercatello and Lido bathing establishments; the one between the Lido and Miramare bathing establishments and the beach between the Arenella bathing establishment and the Motonautica Mercatello shipyard. The Municipality provides the successful bidders with a gazebo, three chemical toilets and a generator to guarantee electricity in the stations. On the free beaches awarded to private individuals, «the sale and administration of prepackaged food and drinks will be allowed; the rental of bathing equipment (umbrellas, deck chairs and sun loungers only), at the request of customers and with controlled prices “. To prevent some ill-intentioned manager from transforming the free beach into a private one, in the tender notice it is specified that “the bathing equipment cannot be installed permanently, nor can they be positioned before the customer has made an explicit request, under penalty of revocation of the concession “.
