In Saudi Arabia, the payment of domestic workers’ salaries through specific formal channels presents several advantages for the employer

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in Saudi Arabia has launched the Paycheck Protection Service for domestic workers’ salaries, starting July 1.

The move is part of the ministry’s initiatives to develop the domestic work sector and ensure the rights of employers and domestic workers.

The service aims to facilitate and ensure transparency of salary payments using digital wallets and authorized banks on the Musaned platform. This service promotes security and reliability in the transfer of salaries, thus preserving the rights of contracting parties, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The service is expected to include all domestic workers by January 1, 2026.

The ministry said the service applies to domestic workers on new contracts and will be applied to current contracts in stages, depending on the number of domestic workers for each employer.

The ministry also specified that the service will be applied to those who have more than four domestic workers starting from 1 January 2025, to those who have three or more domestic workers starting from 1 July 2025 and to those who have two or more domestic workers starting October 1, 2025.

It added that the service is expected to include all domestic workers by January 1, 2026, mentioning that it is optionally available on Musaned from April 1, 2022 and has received widespread positive interaction from customers and contracting parties.

The payment of wages of domestic workers through specific formal channels presents numerous advantages for the employer because it provides evidence of the remuneration paid for domestic work, makes it easier for the employer to put an end to the worker’s procedures at the end of the contractual relationship or during travel, and protects the employer and the employee in the event of a disagreement.
