During a search at the home of the mayor of the French municipality of Avallon, Jamilah Habsaoui, gendarmes found at least 70 kilograms of hashish on Sunday. Judicial sources confirmed this.
In an investigation into drug trafficking in Avallon, in the Yonne department in central France, several searches took place on Sunday. According to a source close to the investigation, more than seventy kilograms of hashish were found at Mayor Jamilah Habsaoui’s home.
The prosecutor of Auxerre, Hugues de Phily, could not officially confirm the location of the find. He did indicate that the mayor was arrested together with six others, including two of her brothers.
In addition to Habsaoui’s residence, investigators also combed the town hall and the pharmacy where she works, it said. According to the prosecutor, gendarmes also found 983 grams of cocaine, 7,000 euros in cash and about twenty gold bars during the searches.
The 46-year-old Habsaoui has been a municipal councilor in Avallon, which has 6,000 inhabitants, since 2014 and was elected mayor in March 2021. She is also a regional councilor in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.
