Four dead in Sichuan Ya’an earthquake

Xinhua News Agency, Chengdu, June 1. The reporter learned from the Sichuan Ya’an Earthquake Relief Headquarters that as of 19:40, some townships in Lushan County and Baoxing County were affected by the earthquake, and Ya’an City received reports of 4 deaths and 14 injuries (all in Baoxing County), the injured have been transferred to city and county hospitals for treatment. According to the Ya’an Municipal Party Committee Office, the four who died were hit by flying stones.

The earthquake caused poor communication in parts of Lushan County and Baoxing County. After emergency repairs, all the trunk optical cables in Lushan County and Baoxing County have been restored, and other interrupted optical cable lines are in the process of rushing through.

The Ya’an Earthquake Relief Headquarters has mobilized more than 4,500 emergency rescue, armed police, fire, medical, public security, militia and other rescue forces to go to the earthquake-stricken areas to carry out personnel search and rescue, treatment of the wounded, road rescue, and mass transfer and resettlement.

At 17:00 on June 1, an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 occurred in Lushan County, Ya’an City, Sichuan, with a focal depth of 17 kilometers. At 17:03, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake occurred in Baoxing County, Ya’an City, with a focal depth of 18 kilometers.
