The trial of Zakaria Atqaoui, a 23-year-old Italian-Moroccan who confessed to having killed his ex-girlfriend Sofia Castelli, who was attacked with a knife last 29 July in Cologno Monzese (Milan) opened this morning in the Court of Assizes in Monza. . At the beginning of the hearing, Atquoi’s defense lawyer, Vainer Burani, asked for a psychiatric evaluation for his client, who was present in the courtroom.
The Court accepted the requests for civil action by Sofia’s family and Aurora Fiameni, the victim’s friend, who was sleeping in the adjoining room at the time of the crime. The request for the establishment of the ‘House of abused women of Milan’ association was also accepted.
Atqaoui, that night, while Sofia was at the disco with her friend after having decided to definitively end the relationship with the 23-year-old due to his obsessive control mania, he was hiding in the closet of her apartment, spying on her on social media while waiting for his homecoming. When the girl returned, she hit and killed her while she was sleeping with a knife taken from the kitchen. She now has to answer for aggravated murder.
The next hearing is scheduled for March 1.
