Kruis in Meerbeke, near Ninove, was temporarily closed by the police on Saturday afternoon. Special units overpowered a man who had threatened him with a knife in his home. The man was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, but when he left his home he was arrested.
At around 2 p.m., residents of Kruis street in Meerbeke were startled by approaching police and an ambulance. A man who lives in the street had recently barricaded himself in his home with a knife. The man in his thirties was spotted and the emergency services were immediately alerted.
Under the influence
The police set up a perimeter for safety reasons, the fire brigade was called to the scene and the grid operator Fluvius also had to turn off the gas pipe to the house as a precaution. The action took just over an hour, but then the suspicious person suddenly walked into the street and the special police units were able to overpower him.
