Embassy of China in Japan Condemns Japan’s Congratulations on Taiwan’s Election
The Chinese Embassy in Japan has released a statement expressing strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to Japan’s Foreign Minister’s public congratulations to the Taiwan region following its election results. The spokesperson of the Embassy stated that Japan’s actions seriously interfere with China’s internal affairs, violate the one-China principle, and go against the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan.
According to the WeChat public account “Chinese Embassy in Japan,” Taiwan is recognized as a part of China, and elections held in Taiwan are considered China’s internal affairs. The one-China principle is emphasized as the basic norm of international relations and the general consensus of the international community. China has always staunchly opposed any form of official exchanges between countries and Taiwan that have diplomatic relations.
The Embassy urged Japan to reflect on its history of aggression against Taiwan, adhere to its commitments on the Taiwan issue, refrain from sending any supportive signals to “Taiwan independence” forces, and avoid causing interference to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and in China-Japan relations.
It has been made clear that the Chinese Embassy in Japan is firm in its position and warns against any further actions that would undermine the longstanding agreement on the one-China principle and disrupt the diplomatic relations between China and Japan.
