He said that this was also the first phone call between the child and his ex-wife in four years, which also let them know that she was actually alive.

He is worried that his ex-wife will be detained by the CCP authorities again.
He explained that after the ex-wife came out, the first thing she did was to call her father. In fact, she and her father lived in the same building. If she was not monitored, she would walk over to visit her father.
It is reported that Duan’s parents did not learn any information about their daughter from the authorities.
“Obviously, if we look at the development in the past 24 hours, I can understand why.” Shen Dong said.
Refusing to cancel the publication of the new book, ex-wife makes threatening calls again
Shen Dong said that their request to cancel the publication is impossible, and he has no plans in this regard. The book will be available on Tuesday (7th).
“I mean, I know (it’s impossible to cancel the publication), but the bureaucrats in Beijing don’t know, (they think) I can pull it back at the last minute with just a finger. Then she called me again. The second call.” Shen Dong said.
Shen Dong said that the second phone call from his ex-wife was more threatening.
The ex-wife asked him in the second phone call, “If you have misfortune, what will happen to our son.” “If something happens to our son, how will you feel.”
Shen Dong said that what the ex-wife said was a code word, meaning that if he opposed it, there would be no good results.
“She may be detained at home. Someone is listening to our phone and telling her what to say.” Shen Dong said.
“She warned me, be calm and don’t publish this book, it will bring more harm. Defamation of the country will not work.” Shen Dong said. “I just said, no, I’m very calm. I have invested several years in this book… I decided to publish this book because the world needs to know more about what China is like and how it works.”
When asked whether he thought it was the best way to continue speaking up for the safety of his ex-wife, Shen said: “I think this is definitely the best way, because after the news came out, she spent four years Reappears later (for the first time).”
Shen revealed in an interview with the Financial Times that he initially hoped to write a memoir as a “gift” for his son, but did not intend to publish it.

Duan Weihong-the woman who traded with the red family
The Financial Times reported that over the years, Duan Weihong and Shen Dong have used their relationships with the most powerful red families and officials of the CCP to obtain lucrative real estate and logistics projects, as well as equity investments in large state-owned enterprises.
Duan and Shen’s main contacts include Zhang Peili, wife of former Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, and Sun Zhengcai, secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee, who was arrested in 2017.
It is reported that Duan Weihong disappeared on September 5, 2017, six weeks after Sun Zhengcai was detained on suspicion of corruption. The three employees who disappeared at the same time as her were released in 2020.
Duan and Shen divorced in 2015. In the same year, Shen left China.
“Financial Times” said that the center of “Red Roulette” is the relationship between Shen Dong and Duan Weihong and the former Chinese Communist Prime Minister’s wife “Aunt Zhang”. Shen wrote that their transaction has never been recorded, but Aunt Zhang obtained 30% of the shares in the project facilitated by her.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Shen Dong stated that Wen Jiabao had no knowledge of Zhang Peili’s business, nor did he secretly provide support, and Wen Jiabao was angry at the media’s disclosure of his relatives’ property and the scale of business activities in 2012.
In 2013, Zhang Peili told Duan Weihong and Shen Dong that she and her children had turned over their assets to the state in exchange for immunity from prosecution.

Shen was born in Shanghai, but moved to Hong Kong when he was a child and then went to university in the United States.
