During the first 16 months of the Petro Government, the National Health Superintendency intensified sanctioning actions, imposing record fines for non-compliance in the provision of services and violations of the regulations of the health system.

The users of the health system, the National Health Superintendency, under the direction of President Gustavo Petro, has recorded record figures in imposition of fines during the first 16 months of Governmentcovering the period from August 2022 to December 2023.

The figure reaches a total of 169,868 million pesos, focusing its focus on deficiencies in the provision of services, mainly imposed on Health Promotion Entities (EPS). This record in fines reflects Supersalud’s commitment to addressing violations of the fundamental right to health of users of the health system in Colombia.

The National Superintendent of Health, Ulahi Beltrán López, highlighted the seriousness of the current situation of the health system in the country and highlighted the entity’s efforts to defend the rights of users. “We are not better the more sanctions we impose, what really makes us more efficient are the actions that guarantee saving more lives and protecting the health of more people in the national territory,” Beltrán López stressed.

During the Government, Supersalud has imposed a total of 524 sanctions, including 413 fines in the first instance and 111 reprimands, all related to non-compliance with current regulations and the obligations of the entities responsible for health insurance, the provision of services. and territorial supervision.

The Health Benefit Plan Administrative Entities (EAPB) lead in receiving fines, with a total of 149, totaling an amount of $80,527 million. They are followed by Health Service Providing Institutions, with 39 fines and $27,971 million, and individuals with 107 sanctions and $19,870 million in fines.

The motivations for imposing sanctions are linked to denial and deficiencies in the provision of services, failures in reporting information to Supersalud and non-compliance in the flow of resources between actors in the system.

Beltrán López considers the reestablishment of the control function over those under surveillance as one of the main achievements of the current Superintendency. He stressed his commitment to making Supersalud an entity that is supportive and effectively allied with users, ensuring effective solutions and functional presence in the most vulnerable territories of the country. During the first 16 months of the current government, the Supersalud Administrative Investigations Delegation has initiated 511 investigations to establish the initiation of sanctioning procedures.
