Texas: A Nation on the Horizon?
The ‘Texit’ movement, which seeks to secure Texas’ secession from the United States and establish it as an independent nation, is gaining momentum. With tensions rising on the border with Mexico and the Federal Government, the prospect of Texas going it alone is becoming a topic of serious consideration among experts.
According to a recent analysis by the RT news network, if Texas were to successfully gain independence, it would become a nation roughly the size of France, with an area of 695 thousand square kilometers and a population of over 30 million, ranking it as the 51st most populous country in the world. Economically, Texas would boast a GDP of over 2 trillion dollars, surpassing the economies of Brazil, Russia, Australia, South Korea, and other developed nations.
Furthermore, an independent Texas would become the seventh largest oil exporter in the world and would also possess a strong nuclear industry and abundant natural resources. This economic strength would likely result in a significant increase in wealth for its citizens.
If ‘Texit’ were to become a reality, Houston would serve as the capital of the new nation, and both English and Spanish would be recognized as official languages due to the state’s geographical location.
The idea of Texas breaking away from the United States is not entirely new. In 1836, Texas declared independence from Mexico before joining the US in 1845.
The ‘Texit’ movement has garnered support from many Texas residents, who see it as an opportunity to chart their own course. As tensions continue to simmer, the possibility of Texas becoming a standalone nation is one that cannot be dismissed.
