The first Giulia in a fleet of 1,770 units destined for the Carabinieri was delivered today in Turin, in the new Alfa Romeo headquarters in via Plava. Equipped with 2.0 turbo petrol engines of 200 HP, with 8-speed automatic transmission, it is intended for use by the staff of the Tenenze and Carabinieri stations for territorial control.
The specific layout of the Giulia includes an aerodynamic variable message panel; two flashing lights with side lights and adjustable light; flashing LEDs on the mirrors; the armored windscreen (level B4) and side windows and shatterproof rear window; armored front doors with descending foot protection (level B4); fuel tank explosion protection; two electromechanical weapon holders; cell for an inmate; bulletproof vest holders; two tonfa holders and shovel; radio in central position; external amplification and diffusion system.
The ceremony was attended by the president of the Stellantis group, John Elkann, the Commander General of the Carabinieri, Teo Luzi, the CEO of the Alfa Romeo brand, Jean-Philippe Imparato, the Italian head of Stellantis, Santo Ficili, the commander of the Carabinieri Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta Region, Aldo Iacobelli, and the provincial Carabinieri commander of Turin, Francesco Rizzo.
A history spanning seventy years
These new Alfa Romeo Giulia reinforce a collaboration born after World War II, when all the “Gazelles” had the Biscione logo. The first Alfa Romeo of the Arma was the 1900 M “Matta” in 1951. A year later, the Gazelle was born with the 1900 sedan. In the language of the weapon, the Gazelle represents the concept of emergency response: fast, agile and resistant.
Its direct descendant was the Giulia of the sixties, it proposed avant-garde concepts managing to combine excellent engine performance with high reliability qualities. The car was well integrated into the structural renewal of the weapon, completed by the brand new radiotelephone sets connected to the Operations Centers, which were the flagship of the weapon. The vehicle was used from 1963 to 1968.
Since then, the close link between the Arma and Alfa Romeo has continued over the years: from the Alfa Romeo Alfetta to the Alfa Romeo 90, from the Alfa Romeo 75 to the Alfa Romeo 155, from the Alfa Romeo 156 to the Alfa Romeo 159, arriving up to the exceptional Giulia Quadrifoglio. Many of these cars are exhibited in the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, in the “Alfa Romeo in Divisa” section.
