Maria and Armida Cristofoli, 100 and 101 years old
SPILIMBERGO. The Cristofoli sisters, Taurianese doc, have both officially entered the history of the centenaries of Italy. Armida, born in 1920, turned 101 last March. On Friday, the younger sister Maria, born on September 17, 1921, crossed the enviable milestone of the century of life.
Mrs. Maria, best known as the “blonde”, just to distinguish her from her older sister Armida, the “brunette”, was celebrated by friends and fellow villagers who reached the retirement home in Spilimbergo where the “Gambarolis” sisters (so called by the name of their family of origin) have been guests for a few months, after having lived together for all their long existence in the house of Tauriano.
A very close bond, that between the Cristofoli sisters and the country of origin, as Raffaele Tomasella, a profound connoisseur of Tauriano, recalls.
“Certainly very welcome was the thought of good wishes addressed to them both by the mayor of Spilimbergo, also a Taurianese by adoption Enrico Sarcinelli, and by the parish priest of Tauriano Don Paolo Zaghet – explains Tomasella recalling what was done by the Cristofoli sisters, who for many years were entrepreneurs in the field of poultry farming -. In particular, the managerial knowledge acquired from their agro-industrial activity, their stubbornness and resoluteness have been for years an important element in the decisions of the parish’s Economic Council ».
