The investigation of the ‘Negreira case’ has taken a new turn with the discovery of documents that show that José María Enríquez Negreira, former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees, was in charge of qualifying the referees.
According to a document to which OKDIARIO has had access, the Civil Guard found arbitration classifications signed by Negreira in the records carried out at the CTA headquarters.
This finding contradicts the version given by the current president of the CTA, Luis Medina Cantalejo, who assured that Negreira “was in the shadows” and that he only limited himself to communicating the promotions and demotions of the referees.
The documents found by the Civil Guard confirm the suspicions of the judge investigating the case, Joaquín Aguirre, that Negreira had great influence over the promotions and demotions of the referees.
This power could have allowed Barcelona to benefit from arbitrations, as it paid Negreira for 17 years.
The judge has recognized that the Catalan club paid Negreira “because they considered that their interests were satisfied.”
