The 8th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress concluded in Beijing
On the morning of the 27th, the eighth meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress concluded at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The highlight of the meeting was the voting and passing of the newly revised Law on the Protection of State Secrets. President Xi Jinping signed Presidential Order No. 20 and announced it, signaling the official approval of the law.
Chairman Zhao Leji presided over the closing meeting, with 165 members of the Standing Committee in attendance, meeting the quorum requirement. The meeting also approved the draft work report of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee and recommended Chairman Zhao Leji to report on the work at the upcoming Second Session of the 14th National People’s Congress.
In addition to the approval of the state secrets law, the meeting also voted on other important matters, including the appointments and dismissals of individuals. The draft agenda and list of presidium and secretary-general for the upcoming Second Session of the 14th National People’s Congress were also approved and will be submitted for review.
Various government officials and representatives attended the meeting, including Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing and officials from the Supreme People’s Court and Supreme People’s Procuratorate. After the closing meeting, a special lecture was held, with Xu Xianming, Vice President of the China Law Society, giving a presentation on “Chinese-Style Modernization and the Rule of Law.”
The conclusion of the 8th meeting marks another step forward in governance and legislation for China, with a focus on protecting national interests and promoting the rule of law.
