The “righea” is back after two years in the Vittoriese

Before Covid there were about fifteen stations, now there are only three: Ceneda, Longhere and Cappella Maggiore

VITTORIO VENETO. The rulea is back, but in mignon format. The traditional Easter game resumes after the stop imposed by Covid, albeit in a reduced form. This year the righee There will be only three organized in the Vittoriese, compared to fifteen in the pre-Covid period. In fact, many associations and various individuals have given up on the ancient tradition due to the high number of infections recorded in recent months and weeks.

There will not even be the expected challenge of the mayors between the playing fields, much less the initiative “Going to villages to visit Stripe”. “Our wish was to resume the tradition of the Righea”, he explains Mauro Posoccopresident of Ceneda Together, “we stopped because the Covid situation was not yet clear. We had everything ready to make it happen, but we didn’t want to take any risks ».

Despite this, however, the historic organizer Sebastiano Baccichetti will revive the custom of the “righea” in the family oil millin via Toti in Ceneda.

“The base of the playing field has been there for over 50 years,” he says. “We set it up even during the pandemic, even though no one played. It was a symbolic initiative. Here, the “righea” has an almost secular tradition. I’m 74 and I’ve always seen her ».

In the seventies it had gone a bit fading because it was considered a “poor” game. Then, starting in the 1980s, it was relaunched by Pro Vittorio and later by the association “Insieme per Ceneda”, led by Mario Longo, who had revived and carried on thanks to the contribution of many other associations.

The appointment is for the days of Easter and Easter Monday: “Here we will play until the octave of Easter,” assures Baccichetti.

The game will also be at the center of the documentary that director Giovanni Esposito and videomaker Luca Tonon have been shooting for about four years. Just in the last few days they have carried out filming at the Cenedese oil mill.

The other two “rows” will be held at the Circolo Arci di Longhere and in the orchard of the rectory of Cappella Maggiore.

The righea is a kind of clay and sandstone billiard table, built on the ground in the shape of a spoon with a slide from which to throw the eggs. The hard-boiled eggs, with shells in various colors, are let go at a predetermined point and must touch those of the opponents.
