The rural economy highlighted through the rural transformation project in Kinshasa

The project to set up a farm launched almost eight months ago to facilitate agricultural production is progressing so much better. The observation is made by Minister of State François RUBOTA MASUMBUKO during the descent carried out on Monday March 25, 2024 at the village Inye in the commune of N’sele in Kinshasa where this project is executed by the World Food Program (WFP).

According to the head of the ministry of rural development in the Democratic Republic of Congo, this project is a vast farm which extends over four hectares, with production activities such as fish farming[ l’élevage de poisson d’eau douce]market gardening [gombo, la pastèque, la tomate]the cassava field and a food processing factory and the production of table salt.

Moved by the work done on the ground, Minister of State François RUBOTA MASUMBUKO welcomed the involvement of the PAM in the vision of the Head of State Félix Antoine TSHISEKEDI TSHILOMBO regarding the promotion of the Rural Economy.

» All these activities will facilitate the development of the rural economy. You will notice that they will notably put in place freezers which will ensure that animal production will be preserved for their evacuation to consumption environments… It is a model of rural transformation that we visited in Madagascar… It seems more developed than what we saw in Madagascar. I congratulate the PAM, which has agreed to develop these types of activities in our country. All of this contributes to the development of our country from the ground up in accordance with the vision of Head of State Félix Tshisekedi. And if the government can also support such activities it will be a very good thing,” he indicated.

For their part, the World Food Program, through its chief agronomist, welcomed the collaboration with the indigenous people.

» This project is based on a community approach. We work with the natives of the village so that, in a given time, women and men can empower themselves and that everything they learn on the farm can be capitalized on in their natural environments, better in their fields. We do this work in good collaboration. The major vision of this project is that the indigenous Congolese can find themselves through work well done on the farm. It is possible because we have the land. The result is there,” he noted.

And added: “The difficulties encountered at the beginning were linked to water for cultivation. But, with the solar panel kit received with the ART project, the problem is solved.”

This visit comes after the stay of Minister of State François RUBOTA MASUMBUKO with a WFP delegation in Madagascar and is part of the promotion of the rural economy in the DRC.
