The Sudanese Foreign Ministry pledges the cessation of fighting in Ramadan to specific conditions… Get to know them

Sudanese Net:

In order to accept the appeal of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to stop hostilities during the holy month of Ramadan, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stipulated that the Rapid Support Forces implement their obligations through the Jeddah platform.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement today, Friday, that it welcomes this appeal, and at the same time recalls similar previous experiences, when the armed forces responded to a similar appeal last Ramadan, and other truces, but “the terrorist Rapid Support militia took advantage of these repeated truces to supply weapons and strengthen its military position.” And occupying more citizens’ homes, hospitals, mosques, churches, and civilian objects.”

The statement added that these truces deepened the humanitarian crisis in the country and “enabled the militia to commit the greatest atrocities and violations.”

Press release

With reference to the appeal of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres, to stop hostilities in Sudan during the holy month of Ramadan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the welcome of the Government of Sudan to this appeal. At the same time, the Ministry recalls similar previous experiences, when the armed forces responded to a similar appeal from Mr. Guterres last Ramadan and also committed to the humanitarian truces that were approved through the Jeddah platform. However, the terrorist militia took advantage of these repeated truces to supply weapons, strengthen its military position, and occupy more areas. Citizens’ homes, hospitals, mosques, churches and civilian objects. As a result, these truces deepened the humanitarian crisis in the country and enabled the militia to commit the greatest atrocities and violations.

Therefore, in order for the recent call of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to achieve its desired results and not be a repetition of those failed experiments, the following objective conditions must be met:

‎1. The militia implemented its obligations through the Jeddah platform by leaving its members from citizens’ homes, public facilities, and civilian objects.

2. The militia’s withdrawal from the states of Jazira and Sennar and all the cities it attacked after signing the Declaration of Humanitarian Principles on May 11, 2023, such as Nyala, El Geneina, Zalingei, and El Daein, and then gathering its forces in an agreed-upon location.

3. Stop the atrocities and violations of international humanitarian law and human rights law committed by the militia in the various states that attacked it, including the states of Darfur, Al-Jazira, Sennar, and White Nile. South Kordofan and West Kordofan.

4. Returning looted public and private goods and holding accountable the perpetrators of acts of destruction that affected public facilities and citizens’ property.

After the war stops, the necessary political arrangements will be made after broad consultations with all national forces to manage the transitional period followed by holding general elections for the people to choose who will rule them.

We are certain that the terrorist militia, which launched its war on the state and the citizen during the holy month of Ramadan last year, is devoid of any religious, moral or national scruples and therefore cannot respect the sanctity of the Holy Month.
