The Colombian delegation that will be present at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games continues to grow and there are already 39 athletes who will be representing the country, after two more have joined in the boxing discipline, first with Ingrit Valencia who will once again be present in this important event and later with Yilmar González, after both having advanced to the semifinals of their respective categories. In this way, there will be five Colombian boxers in French territory, added to the already qualified Jenny Marcela Arias, Valeria Arboleda and Angie Valdés.

One of the surprises and unexpected events had to do with the elimination of Yuberjén Martínez who lost to the Cuban Alejandro Claro, with a split decision, after a bad start in the first round. In this way, the Olympic medalist in Rio 2016, expressed the 31-year-old athlete: “we could not achieve the main objective, which was to qualify for the Olympic Games, but we have to keep working to see what comes next.”

Ortíz also lost

Another of the Colombians who was left without options to go to France was the boxer Juan Ortíz in the 80 kilograms after losing his place against the Uzbek Turabek Khabibullaev who obtained a resounding 5-0 victory. Finally, the Ministry of Sports informs that Colombian boxers have another opportunity to qualify for Paris 2024 through the second Pre-Olympic World Championship, which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 26 to June 2 of this year.
