The deputies of the Legislative Assembly approved with 66 votes in favor, the reform to the Penal Code proposed by President Nayib Bukele, in which the number of deputies will be reduced from 84 to 60, thus eliminating the election by waste.
This figure consists of the fact that the candidates least voted for by the population are elected by the residue of the votes than other parties -with a greater number of votes in favour-, violating the popular will and granting seats to deputies who were not elected by the salvadorans.
«Plurality comes from the possibility that whoever wants to register as a candidate in a political party, and for the first time the diaspora will be included. The people are the ones who choose who remains or not”, expressed the deputy of the Bancada Cyan, Christian Guevara.
In this way, the Legislative Assembly returns to the 60 deputies that had prior to the signing of the Peace Accords, eliminating the election of deputies that are not elected by the people.
