Express Delivery Suspension Sparks Debate during Spring Festival
As the Chinese New Year approaches, a “express delivery outage schedule” has caused a stir on the internet, with netizens expressing concern over the potential impact of the Spring Festival on express delivery services.
The schedule, posted by some netizens, claims that major express delivery companies including YTO, ZTO, STO, and Yunda will be out of service from February 9th (New Year’s Eve) to February 12th (the third day of the Lunar New Year). However, officials from these companies have refuted the claim, stating that operations will not be suspended during the Spring Festival.
Despite these assurances, netizens have pointed out that even if express companies do not suspend operations, Cainiao Stations in various communities are generally closed during the Spring Festival. This means that there may be no one available to deliver or receive express deliveries, leading to extended delivery times and potential disruptions to the express delivery service.
In response to these concerns, STO Express issued a network-wide notice on January 29, announcing adjustments to their freight strategy in certain areas. The adjustment involves a differentiated fee structure based on weight for express shipments in specific provinces. Additionally, companies in each province of departure have been authorized to flexibly adjust charging strategies based on their own transportation capacity.
The implementation date of this adjustment strategy is from January 30 to February 2, 2024, based on the pick-up time. These changes have further fueled the debate over the potential impact of the Spring Festival on express delivery services.
