Three Sardinian tourists get lost in Rome: an ATAC driver takes them back to the hotel

The three ladies wrote to the Atac to thank the gentleman who finished his shift at one in the morning and brought them back to the hotel with his own car.

ROME. At the end of the shift, he took back three Sardinian tourists who were on his bus and got lost in Rome. The three women have now written a letter to Atac to thank the driver-gentleman. The story dates back to the end of October: Gianni, in service on the 881 line, is finishing his last run before returning to the depot. There are only three ladies on board, rather bewildered, who are worriedly asked what to do to get back to the hotel. The man realizes from the accent that they are not from Rome: they come from Sardinia and are in town for work. Unfortunately at one in the morning there are no longer many alternatives: “Take a taxi – suggests Gianni – or wait for it to finish working and I’ll take you with my car”. The driver has polite manners, the reliable face of a family man, and the women accept the courteous proposal. Everything ends well. They return to the hotel but do not forget their knight in uniform and write to Atac to thank him publicly.

“She was a very kind and very helpful person – says Matilde – I don’t think others would have had such shrewdness towards three strangers”. “I identified with them – confesses Gianni – I have a wife and two daughters, I could not have left them alone in an unknown city”. Driver with Atac since 1988, he is proud to do this job: “Driving is my life and I try to do my job at best”. (Handle).
