Traffic has resumed between Kenge and Kinshasa on the RN1

Traffic timidly resumed this Sunday on national road number 1 in its section between Kenge and Kinshasa, the capital.

Traffic was suspended on this section after clashes between loyalist forces and insurgents known as Mobondo in several towns along the RN1, namely Pont Kwango, Mongata, Batshongo and Mbankana.

Vehicles stuck at Kenge, Kwango bridge, Mongata or Batshongo continued their journeys towards Kinshasa or Kenge-Kikwit.

According to several travelers who arrived in Kinshasa this Sunday from Kenge, several villages attacked by these assailants were emptied of their inhabitants. Many are on their way to Kinshasa to find asylum.

In the meantime, the military devices have been reinforced on the section to secure the population. And already, the province of Kwango has decreed a curfew throughout the province, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
