Trial of Renzi’s parents, the official file lost. The Court tries to go ahead with copies of the documents

FLORENCE – Now the appeal process for the issuance of false invoices, which sees Tiziano Renzi and Laura Bovoli together with the entrepreneur Luigi Dagostino, is at risk of serious legal disputes. The procedure, which began this morning, could be postponed because, as specified by the court, it was not possible to find the file with the documents of the trial. Furthermore, a sound recording technician requested by the defendants’ lawyers, who have filed a request for a partial reopening of the hearing, would not be available. For these reasons, the trial could be postponed to another date after the discussion of the request to reopen the preliminary investigation. Among the requests made by the defendants, the examination of the accused and the acquisition of documents aimed at proving the authenticity of the operations indicated in the invoices contested as false by the prosecution.

The Court admitted that it was not in possession of the appeal file, but that it still had a copy of all the documents. Then the chairman invited the parties to proceed with the discussion. At the end, the judges will retire to the chambers to decide whether to issue a sentence or accept the request for reopening of the hearing put forward by the defense. The defense lawyers had asked the court to make a preliminary decision on the reopening of the trial, without going to the discussion. Upon the rejection of this request, the parents of the former prime minister got up from their seats and left the classroom for a few moments and then returned.
