Tribute to Chocó at the National Colombian Music Festival

by admin

In the 38th version of the National Colombian Music Festival, which takes place from March 18 to 25 in Ibagué, a tribute to the cultural heritage of Chocó is included in the program. On behalf of Chocó, Samburúk chirimía, the group that won the best clarinet performer in the Pacific Indalecio Sánchez, attends within the framework of the Petronio Álvarez 2023 Pacific Music Festival.

More than a thousand artists will be the protagonists of the varied programming. 98% of the activities are free to enter. Groups and artists from all Colombian regions will show the sound and vocal richness of our country, as indicated by the 2024 motto: I am a party, I am music, I am a country. There will be more than 80 million pesos in prizes.

“We expect an important economic reactivation, every time we have national events, with a host Ibagué, ready with all its gastronomy and hotels, as well as a whole tourist offer such as the Combeima canyon, our Panopticon, which is one of the best spaces of art from Latin America and many other places in the context of this Festival. That is why we are waiting for you from March 18 to 24 with open arms to enjoy the best Colombian music,” said Mayor Johana Ximana Aranda.

The varied programming also includes academic content of master classes, conferences, art and musical instrument exhibitions, dialogue concerts, Exaltation of Human Values, recognition of the media, tribute to the Garzón y Collazos duet, beautiful serenade in the San Bonifacio cemetery -which gave rise to the Festival- and the celebration, on March 21, of the National Day of Colombian Music, which on this occasion will include three concerts simultaneously in Ibagué, Chaparral and Honda.

“We have built the programming with care and with all the love for our music. This edition has a special meaning: the 30th anniversary of the National Duets Competition, a symbol of this dream that became a legend. Among the novelties we will have the celebration of the National Day of Colombian Music, with simultaneous concerts in Ibagué and two municipalities in the south and north of Tolima, as well as a tribute to the cultural heritage of Chocó,” said Doris Morera de Castro, president of the Colombian Musical Foundation, today recognized as the “First Lady of the country’s music festivals.”

On Wednesday, March 20, starting at 5 p.m., the Festival will officially open at the Alfonso López Pumarejo Convention Center in Ibagué, with a concert that will offer a tour of the 30 years of the National Duets Competition “Princes of la Canción”, one of the most important competitions in its category in the entire country.

They will be joined by Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, the emblematic group that during the programming week will show, with its bagpipes, drums and voices, the vast cultural wealth of the Colombian Caribbean region, and the Tolima Symphonic Band, which continues to sow legacy against typical music and the universal repertoire under the baton of Reynaldo Murillo Cruz from Tolima.

The children’s component will be provided this time by the Benigno Núñez Instrumental Convite, from Boyacá. They are children and young people from an instrumental group that has stood out in important festivals in the country.

Entry to the Convention Center is free, although with an entrance ticket, to control capacity.
