PAGANI – «Pagani is a particularly complex city. Talking about change requires a little impact on identity, on consciences. If we talk about criminal organizations I must say that the Camorra organization in Pagani is very present and over time it has changed, it has transformed, but unfortunately it is still present. Our law enforcement activities are daily, constant, but the repression activity is only one of the parts that serves to improve a city and serves to affect education, conscience, civic sense and legality ”.
Thus the provincial commander of the carabinieri, Colonel Gianluca Trombetti, was clear at the end of the commemorative event that took place in the Liguorina city for the 13th anniversary of the death of the carabiniere Marco Pittoni. The Camorra does not shoot today, but it still remains one of the ugliest plagues gripping the city of Sant’Alfonso Maria de ‘Liguori. A community where Pittoni, a 33-year-old carabiniere, lost his life in 2008, in an attempt to foil a robbery in the post office in Corso Ettore Padovano.
An event that at the time shook the conscience, and which is remembered every year so as not to forget the sacrifice of that hero carabiniere. “Something has happened. The fact that we find ourselves remembering Marco’s gesture every year is really a very important thing – said Trombetti -. There is always more to do especially if you want to make a great investment that has a long-term return. We must do it on young people. We talked about the possibility of setting up a day of remembrance for Marco within all the Pagani schools in such a way that it is not just a photo, Pittoni’s name does not remain a plaque or a marble, but something that actually pulsates inside. and that reminds us that sacrificing oneself for others, not only in such an important way, as Marco did, even small gestures help to improve society – added Trombetti with shining eyes -. He is very present in all the citizens of Pagani. I believe that the seed of legality was launched by Marco himself with his heroic deed ». The mass, which was also attended by activists from the “Libera” garrison of Agropoli, named after Marco Pittoni, was celebrated by Don Flaviano Calenda in the “Corpo di Cristo” church. During the homily, the priest brought greetings from Marco’s mother to the community. The memory of the mayor Lello De Prisco is also touching.
“Are we worthy of the sacrifice he made for us? Are we still? We all know Marco Pittoni. In all homes there is his memory – said the mayor -. The weapon is never thanked enough for what it does and the proof is in everyday facts. If the city had truly understood Marco Pittoni’s sacrifice, we would not be at the point of having to call the carabinieri for every simple thing ». After the mass, two soldiers in uniform placed a laurel wreath in front of the post office where Pittoni lost his life and Lieutenant Simone Cannatelli, commander of the Pagani lieutenancy, 33 years old like the soldier from Sondrio, read the letter with the motivation for the conferment of the Gold Medal for Military Valor “to the memory”.
