Four people died and many others were injured in the derailment of the Ueles Railway Company (CFU) freight train on Wednesday, April 10, at Kilometer Point 36 on the Ubundu-Kisangani (Tshopo) axis.
According to sources on site, several items that were on board this train were lost.
The same sources report that the damaged train was returning from Ubundu to the city of Kisangani.
In addition to the goods, this train also took on board many passengers.
Arriving at kilometer point 36 of Kisangani, he unfortunately experienced a derailment.
For the administrator of the Ubundu territory, Verdotte Yamulamba, the very advanced deterioration of the railway line would be the cause of this fatal accident.
He asked the government to think about opening up this entity whose main access route remains the Kisangani-Ubundu road, 125 km long.
This road is also in poor condition, travelers are tempted to manage otherwise at the risk of their lives.
For his part, the president of the Sauti ya Lubunga NGO, Crown Prince Isomela banned his fellow citizens from traveling via the freight train in order to spare their lives.
About two years ago, another similar accident occurred on this route, killing around ten people.
