ISTANBUL (dpa-AFX) – The Turkish presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu was clearly optimistic a few hours after the polling stations closed. “We’re ahead,” the 74-year-old tweeted on Sunday evening during the counting of votes. He did not say what data he was referring to.
The tweet was shared and liked thousands of times in a very short time. “Our presidential candidate, Mr. Kilicdaroglu, will be announced as president tonight. We can say that and we believe in it,” said his party colleague, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.
