According to reports, the student suddenly developed fever, fatigue, retching, diarrhea, convulsions and other symptoms on July 28, and was sent to the Liumiao Village Clinic twice that night and on July 30 for medical treatment. On the 31st, the student suddenly developed unconsciousness, tetanus, and stiff neck during the infusion, and was transferred to Binzhou Medical University Hospital for treatment.

On August 6, the student died. Experts diagnosed that the cause of death was intestinal anthrax or meningeal anthrax caused by sepsis.

The Chinese Communist Party’s official media CCTV reported that many of the student’s family members are engaged in cattle breeding and slaughtering. There are slaughter facilities and cold storage in the courtyard. The student has been through the slaughter scene many times and also participated in the transportation of cold storage beef.

The other confirmed case is a 35-year-old man engaged in cattle slaughter. He went to the student’s home on July 25 and slaughtered sick cattle purchased from Wendian Town, Yangxin County. He was identified as a suspected case on August 8 and was subsequently diagnosed with cutaneous anthrax.

According to a report by the Beijing Daily, the cattle seller said that the cattle were purchased from Jilin Province in early July. Interviewees said that during the slaughter process, black blood flowed on the ground and the internal organs gave off a peculiar smell.

Recently, many anthrax epidemics have occurred in many provinces of the mainland.

On August 9, Beijing reported 1 exceptional case of pulmonary anthrax in Beijing. The case came from Weichang Manchu and Mongolian Autonomous County in Chengde City, Hebei Province. There is a history of contact with cattle, sheep and their products in the local area. Four days after the onset of illness, he was transferred to Beijing for treatment, and the patient has been treated in isolation.

Recently, a suspected skin anthrax epidemic occurred in Wenshui County, Shanxi Province. On August 12, the Central Health Center of Liuhulan Town, Wenshui County, Shanxi Province reported that in Baoxian Village of the town, villagers in Baoxian Village recently experienced papules on limbs, which then turned into blisters, ulcerated, crusted, blackened, edema, lymphoma, etc. symptom. After investigation, 9 people in the village had similar symptoms as mentioned above. These nine people are all engaged in beef cattle breeding, slaughtering, and sales in Baoxian Village.

According to Caixin.com, an outbreak of anthrax was also found in a community in Yinchuan, Ningxia, in early July. Insiders said that the anthrax epidemic was caused by the sale of sick cattle. Some cattle dealers purchased a batch of sick cattle from the neighboring Inner Mongolia Ordos City Etuokeqianqi and transported them to Wuzhong City for slaughter in an attempt to sell them to Yinchuan.

It is reported that anthracnose is a zoonotic disease caused by Bacillus anthracis, which is mainly prevalent in herbivorous animals such as cattle, sheep, and deer. Most of the infections are through the skin, and a few are infections through the respiratory or digestive tract. The inhalation mortality rate is as high as 70%.
