In a joint effort between the Prosecutor’s Office and the Police, two men identified as Jhon Sebastián Cardozo Valencia and Gian Carlos Jhesed Torres Hoyos were captured in flagrante delicto for their alleged participation in the kidnapping of a young man in Pitalito, Huila. The rescue of the victim took place on February 10 after an intense police chase.

The accused were arrested when they were trying to exchange a million-dollar sum of money for the release of the young man, who had been deprived of his liberty since January 25 of this year. It is presumed that they demanded more than 30 million pesos in exchange for his release.

During the guarantee control hearings, the accused were accused of the crimes of extortionate kidnapping. and reception, however, denied their participation in them. As a preventive measure, intramural security measures were issued to them while the corresponding investigations are carried out.

According to information collected by authorities, the victim was kidnapped while he was with several people. The kidnappers made extortion calls to the young man’s father, who is a judicial official in Huila, demanding a ransom. Later, they also contacted the victim’s mother, identifying themselves as members of a social cleansing group.

The rescue was carried out after the young man’s father contacted the Gaul reporting on the demand for payment of 35 million pesos in exchange for the release of his son. After several negotiations, a controlled delivery was agreed at a service station in Pitalito.

During the operation, the authorities followed the alleged kidnappers to a house, where a chase ensued.

At the place of capture, traumatic weapons, two motorcycles (one of them reported stolen) and elements similar to administration material were found, which coincide with what was observed in a survival video sent to the victim’s relatives.

The case remains under investigation as authorities seek to clarify the facts and bring those responsible to justice.
