A five-year-old girl of Ukrainian nationality died this evening following a serious road accident near the state road 106, in Cantorato, north of Crotone. The child was in the company of two other people, also of Ukrainian nationality, who were walking along the right lane, when a medium-sized car arrived, driven by a 45-year-old man from Crotone who struck pedestrians despite the area being normally illuminated. The man stopped to help the little girl, but there was nothing to do for the little one.
A tragedy within a tragedy: like the drama two days ago of the refugee who fled the war in Ukraine together with her two children aged 12 and 10, who arrived in Italy. As soon as she got off the bus in Rome after 30 hours of traveling, she collapsed and died.
The three Ukrainians invested tonight are part of a group of refugees who have recently arrived in Crotone. In addition to the military personnel, the 118 personnel, the coroner and the firefighters also intervened at the scene of the accident. The driver of the vehicle was accompanied to the emergency room of the Crotone hospital for the completion of the medical and breathalyser tests. Checks are underway by the carabinieri.
