Army Reservist in Kansas Charged with Murdering Wife After Making False Suicide Report

A chilling case of deception and betrayal unfolded in Kansas when an Army Reserve member called 911 to report his wife’s suicide, only for investigations to reveal that it was a homicide.

On Halloween morning in 2019, the Army Reserve member, Colby Trickle, contacted emergency services to report that his wife had taken her own life with a gunshot to the head. However, suspicions arose when Sergeant Brandon Hauptman, who responded to the call, found discrepancies in Trickle’s story. Despite the initial ruling of suicide by the coroner, investigators continued to dig deeper into the case.

Their suspicions were confirmed when it was discovered that Trickle had collected two life insurance policies totaling over $120,000 for his wife and had spent a significant portion of the money on frivolous purchases, including a life-size sex doll just days after receiving the insurance payout. Further investigation revealed that Trickle had lied about his military service and had never been deployed overseas as he claimed.

In July 2021, Colby Trickle was charged with first-degree murder and interfering with law enforcement. The trial in September 2023 exposed the disturbing details of the case, including the purchase of the sex doll and the psychological autopsy performed on Kristen Trickle, which raised doubts about her supposed suicide.

Despite his mother’s testimony claiming the sex doll provided comfort to her son after his wife’s death, the jury found Colby guilty of murdering his wife. He was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 50 years.
