USCIS starts economic aid program for migrants to obtain citizenship

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced the opening of the application period for the Citizenship and Integration Subsidies Program, which aims to provide support to legal immigrants seeking to become citizens through naturalization.

This program, which has been available for sixteen years, will allocate up to US$10,000,000 to various organizations dedicated to preparing individuals for the citizenship process. Through the Citizenship and Naturalization Application Assistance Service, eligible immigrants will have access to benefits to simplify and reduce the cost of their naturalization process.

The funds will not be directly distributed to applicants, but rather to organizations that serve remote, underserved, or isolated communities. These organizations will receive up to US$300,000 over two years to expand services aimed at immigrants seeking citizenship.

USCIS is optimistic that this program will assist up to forty organizations in supporting legal permanent residents in their journey towards citizenship. The deadline for organizations to apply for this program is June 21, and it is open to both public and non-profit organizations offering citizenship education and assistance services.

Since its inception in 2009, the Citizenship and Integration Subsidies Program has granted over US$155,000,000 through 644 subsidies to organizations serving marginalized immigrants. It is estimated that more than 300,000 immigrants across 41 states and the District of Columbia have benefitted from this program and successfully obtained their citizenship.

This initiative highlights the commitment of USCIS to support legal immigrants in fulfilling their dreams of becoming citizens of the United States.
