TOLMEZZO. Two vans are set on fire in the street, smoke invades a building and two young people are taken to hospital for inhaling smoke. It happened on the night between Monday 11 and Tuesday 12, shortly after 3.20, in Tolmezzo.
The firefighters of the local detachment intervened with the tank pump and the tank truck to fire two vans parked in via Garibaldi.
The fire, due to the rupture of the fuel tank of one of the two vehicles with consequent ignition of the spilled fuel, had reached two other cars parked not far away.
The firefighters managed to move the smaller of the two vans before it was completely engulfed in flames and put out the fire while preventing the flames from spreading to the other two cars.
The fumes from the combustion of the vehicles invaded the premises of a two-storey building from which the firefighters evacuated two young people who took refuge in the bathroom of their accommodation to protect themselves from the smoke. The two people, once taken outside the building, were taken in charge by the 118 health personnel who transported them to the hospital for the necessary investigations as they had breathed the products of combustion.
The firefighters’ work ended at about 6.30 with the complete safety of the vehicles involved in the fire and with an instrumental check inside the premises of the building, which had been invaded by smoke, to avoid that there was still some presence of some harmful substance derived from the products of combustion.
