Veterinary services, including those for medical care for pets, are taxed at a rate of 12% Value Added Tax (VAT), as reminded by the Internal Revenue Service (SRI). However, this causes concern in representatives of foundations and associations for the protection of animals in the city of Loja.
For a few days, certain doubts have been generated regarding the payment of 12% VAT for veterinary services; after the Tax Reform, sent in the first Law Decree, of President Lasso.
The SRI clarified, in a statement, that veterinary services, including those for medical care for pets, have been taxed at a 12% VAT rate since 2007.
There are cases of veterinary businesses that do not charge VAT on their sales, arguing that they are health services, therefore, the tax entity started an information campaign.
Support
Karen Solórzano Novillo, a member of the Animal Rights Defense Association (ADDA) in Loja, in dialogue with Diario Crónica, indicated that those who are linked to organizations do not have resources for veterinary care.
“It’s expensive to pay the expense of taking pets to a professional.”
The payment of veterinary care services is faced through activities that allow obtaining funds such as raffles, used clothing for sale, and other actions. In addition to people of good will, who contribute resources, Solórzano Novillo specified.
Worry
Some citizens, from the city of Loja, also mentioned that, in recent days, several owners of veterinary centers will begin to charge VAT for medical care for pets.
Juan Carlos Ayala declared that, “before, they did not give him an invoice. However, from this month they gave me an invoice with 12% VAT”. (YO)
