Via Roma, stop to the anti-alcohol ordinance. The managers will hire vigilantes

Agreement between the Municipality of Treviso and the owners of the premises in the area which had been imposed to stop the sale of drinks from 2 pm

TREVISO. Ca ‘Sugana towards the stop to the anti-alcohol ordinance of the area between via Roma and Orioli. On 6 July the bans imposed a month ago to stem violence and degradation in the area will expire, but this time the junta intends not to extend the new rules. This is also thanks to an agreement with some traders in the area who have undertaken to take care of security in their premises, also by hiring vigilantes. Also contributing to Ca ‘Sugana’s step backwards is the fact that, thanks to the holidays, the number of young people who flock to the Via Roma quadrant over the weekend has greatly decreased.

In short, the summer truce has begun. Reason why the choice not to extend the ordinance could also be only temporary: in September the bans could return. The most convinced detractors of the prohibitions, however, were the places between via Orioli and Riviera Santa Margherita. For them, the ordinance banned the sale of alcohol from 14 to 3. A problem especially for the Celtic Pub, which had just resumed activity at full speed after months of closure for Covid. The prohibition that had appeared unjustified: «Here alcohol is not sold at supermarket prices; the problems of the street have nothing to do with my business. In 16 years of work, nothing has ever happened in my pub and I have never created any problems », said the Celtic owner, Roberto Albertini, on the day the bans came into force. Yet the ordinance in fact affects only him and the nearby bar, while the kebab next door already does not sell alcohol. The ban on the sale of alcohol from 2pm also applies to the supermarket and ethnic shops in via Orioli, which obviously have less consequences on their accounts than a brewery. The ordinance also imposed the closure from 19 to 8 “for all commercial activities (food and / or non-food shops, hairdressers-hairdressers-barbers / beauticians, crafts, tertiary and service activities) that have the entrance of users from via Orioli and those operating in Piazza Giustiniani, immediately adjacent to via Orioli ».

A measure, the one signed by the mayor Mario Conte at the beginning of June, to try to lower the tension in an area once again at the center of fights, decay and even some theft. A sort of shock therapy, which now, however, will not stop completely. If on the one hand the ordinance will not be extended, on the other hand the fixed garrison of the local police will remain in via Orioli.

But there is more to be done to resolve the issue, according to councilor Roberto Grigoletto of the Democratic Party, who underlined it in the last city council: “I know how complicated it is to solve the problems of that area”, he said referring to his passed from councilor for security, «I don’t like fixed presidia, because I think they only serve to shift the problem. But an intervention by social services and other municipalities is needed. We started with street workers, getting in touch with the kids. Many come to Treviso from other municipalitiesi, knowing who they are can help communicate with their families. ” federico onion
