‘Aretico’, as the victim was known, suffered the traffic accident when he was returning from Maicao to Valledupar, after being in Venezuela, where he participated in a billiards championship.

Apparently, the causes of the accident were that the driver identified as Dago Quintana Chinchilla, 64, who also died, had a microsleep and collided with the back of a truck.

De La Hoz had won a gold medal representing the department of Atlántico in the most recent National Games that were held in the Coffee Region. There he won the team modality of 9-Ball Pool Billiards with billiard player Lainiker Quiñones. In addition, he added a bronze in singles.

His death has left pain among his family and athletes dedicated to billiards.

Adalberto Larios Rivera, president of the Cesar billiard league, said that ‘Aretico’ started playing 15 years ago, he represented the Cesar league in 2015 and 2016, then in the Atlantic they gave him good offers and there he stood out and triumphed greatly.

“We lose a great stronghold and a great talent, in 8 days he was going to participate in a world championship to be held in Medellín, he had already participated in some Pan American Games and the nationals he had already won everything and they almost didn’t let him participate just as an exhibition. The Cesar and Atlántico billiard league will pay tribute to him here in Valledupar,” said Larios Rivera.
