vida union: Gerhard Siegl elected as new state chairman

At the 5th state conference of the vida Upper Austria trade union, the works council chairman of ÖBB Infrastructure AG, Gerhard Siegl, was elected as the new state chairman. The 54-year-old from Ennsdorf follows Helmut Woisetschläger, who has been state chairman of the vida union since 2012 and is now about to retire. Christine Heitzinger, Dominik Reischütz, Jürgen Huemer and Martina Reischenböck were appointed as his deputies in the transport and services union.

Siegl’s election continues a tradition: vida was founded in 2006, and since then there have only been railway workers as chairmen. The current election was a first: for the first time there was also a second candidate. Erwin Deicker, chairman of the works council of the Barmfühle Brüder hospital in Linz, also wanted to become chairman, as the OÖN reported.

The health and care sector will continue to be an important focus for the vida union in the future, it said in a press release on Wednesday. “It is clear to everyone that we will need more nursing staff in the coming years. However, we can only achieve this if the working conditions there improve drastically. That is exactly what we will work for,” announced Siegl.

The new state chairman once again advocated the fair expansion of public transport. vida continues to advocate for the establishment of the best bidder instead of the lowest bidder principle in tenders.
