With the aim of facing the El Niño phenomenon that affects Meta with droughts and forest fires, the governor, Rafaela Cortés Zambrano, led a (virtual) meeting with mayors of the department, to carry out timely, comprehensive and anticipatory actions that allow strengthening the preparation and response processes in this season of less rain.
During the meeting, the importance of coordination with the municipalities was highlighted to establish joint actions that allow contingency, prevention and mitigation measures to be taken against the effects of this climate phenomenon, which especially affects the agricultural and environmental sectors.
The need to identify and strengthen the logistical capacity for emergency response was also socialized, specifically of relief agencies and public or private entities that can support in emergency scenarios.
The departmental director for Disaster Risk Management of Meta, Lina Herrera, stated that the necessary interventions and resources must be prioritized to guarantee a timely and effective response to the communities affected by the El Niño phenomenon.
