(www.iLMeteo.it) Today we celebrate the World Meteorological Day, established in 1950 and dedicated to the world of meteorology and its most current themes. This year’s theme is ‘Early Warning and Early Action’ which in other words means ‘Prevention, Warning and Early Action’.
Last year, the focus was on ‘Oceans, Climate and Forecasts’, two years ago on ‘Water Resources’. After 72 years from the establishment of this ‘birthday of meteorologists’, the issues are always topical and to be resolved: a heavy drought is hitting Northern Italy and part of the Center with a Winter that is totally forgettable as regards snow and rain.
Prevention, warning and timely action, this year’s theme, have made great strides thanks to the National Civil Protection system, the Regional Weather Centers and the various environmental bodies that have monitored our disastrous country: 91% of Italian municipalities in fact fall into areas with hydrogeological instability, a large part of the population therefore needs the weather eye, or rather the hydrometeo eye with the help of hydrologists, geologists and all the actors who they help us and will help avoid environmental disasters. In fact, this is what happens with forecasts and weather warnings: lives are saved.
To calmly reflect on the Prevention and the Alert system, the birthday sees a very calm weather situation, suitable for making the forecasters rest: flat calm, anticyclone over all of Italy, no risk of extreme phenomena, weak wind, absent fogs, calm seas. But, precisely because of the flat calm and starry skies, we will have strong temperature changes between day and night: the expected jump is around 20 ° C, from lows close to zero to decidedly spring highs and increasing.
Translated into meteorological terms we will have a wide diurnal temperature range that we recommend to face in this way: ‘dress like an onion’, in the morning covered with a down jacket, hat and gloves, in the afternoon off this winter layer and free in the warm sun of the end of March.
Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist of the site www.iLMeteo.it, in this context of temperature changes and flat meteorological calm, in fact confirms the presence of the famous anticyclone ‘Norse’, that of the slogan, ‘Norse arrives and it rains less and less!’: With high pressure will not move even a leaf and obviously it will not rain; only from Friday we expect an increase in clouds over Sardinia, while the weekend will be more uncertain. Uncertain but all in all sunny and warm on the peninsular, a little more annoying rain showers are expected only between Sardinia and Sicily.
On the rest of the country thin glazes will arrive to paint even more fascinating sunsets during the weekend, sunsets that will then show themselves in all their beauty at late evening hours: in fact, with the entry into force of summer time, the sun will go down under the horizon between 19.45 and 19.52 in Milan, Turin and Aosta, a little earlier, given the geographical position, in Lecce, around 19. Sunsets, temperature changes or drought, however from North to South we will have pleasant temperatures and we will savor a first course true taste of Spring.
