Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, recently attended the plenary meeting of the People’s Liberation Army and Armed Police Force delegation during the Second Session of the 14th National People’s Congress. During the meeting, Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of strengthening missions, deepening reform and innovation, and comprehensively enhancing strategic capabilities in emerging fields.
Xi Jinping highlighted that strategic capabilities in emerging fields are crucial for national development, security, and military initiative. Representatives from various military branches shared their views on improving capabilities in areas such as maritime situational awareness, cyberspace defense, artificial intelligence application, and unmanned combat forces.
In a speech following the representatives’ remarks, Xi Jinping focused on the need to enhance strategic capabilities in emerging fields. He stressed the importance of accelerating the development of new productive forces and integrating new technologies to boost combat effectiveness. Additionally, Xi Jinping emphasized the significance of innovation and technology in driving advancements in emerging fields.
To achieve these goals, Xi Jinping called for a focus on implementing strategies related to strategic capacity building in emerging fields, such as optimizing aerospace layouts, building cyberspace defense systems, and promoting the application of advanced technologies. He also highlighted the need to deepen reforms and enhance the innovation ecosystem to better support the building of strategic capabilities in emerging fields.
The meeting was presided over by Zhang Youxia, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission. Other members of the Central Military Commission, including He Weidong, Liu Zhenli, and Zhang Shengmin, were also in attendance. Xi Jinping’s emphasis on strengthening strategic capabilities in emerging fields underscores the importance of innovation and reform in driving advancements in China’s military capabilities.
