In April last year, she was on her way to a party with some friends when she made a wrong address and drove into the wrong driveway. It killed her. The perpetrator of the murder of a 20-year-old American now has to go to prison for 25 years.

It was a Saturday evening. 20-year-old Kaylin Gillis and her friends were looking for a place to party in the dark when they pulled into a long, winding driveway in the small town of Hebron, New York. They thought they had finally found the right location, but weren’t sure because there was little coverage in the remote area and their GPS didn’t indicate where they were.

Almost immediately after pulling into the driveway, the friends were attacked by the building’s 66-year-old resident, Kevin Monahan. Gillis was hit in the neck and died from her injuries. Monahan later stated that he believed he and his family were “under siege” by invaders. However, prosecutors said the man acted “out of anger.” “He grabbed his shotgun and wanted to get the unwanted guests out as quickly as possible, he didn’t care if they got hurt or killed,” it said.

In January this year, Monahan was found guilty of murder, but now he was given the maximum sentence of 25 years. A verdict that a jury had to deliberate for less than two hours. “I think it’s important for people to know that it’s not okay to shoot and kill people because they pull into your driveway,” Judge Adam Michelini said.
