Two Police Officers Remembered for Sacrifices in the Line of Duty
In a recent report by CCTV news, it was revealed that in 2023, a total of 253 police officers and 164 auxiliary police officers from public security agencies across the country lost their lives in the line of duty. These brave individuals sacrificed everything to ensure the safety and security of their communities, leaving behind a legacy of heroism and dedication.
Among the fallen heroes, two individuals have been highlighted for their exceptional courage and service. Police officer Jiang Jiuhua of Qingshen County, Sichuan, and grassroots police officer Wei Heyou from Nanchang, Jiangxi, both made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities.
On April 17, 2023, Jiang Jiuhua was tragically attacked by a criminal suspect with a knife while on a search and investigation mission with his comrades. Despite being seriously injured, Jiang Jiuhua bravely confronted the suspect to protect his comrades and the public. His heroic actions ultimately led to the apprehension of the suspect, but sadly, Jiang Jiuhua succumbed to his injuries. He was only 46 years old and had dedicated 20 years of his life to serving as a police officer.
Similarly, Wei Heyou, a dedicated grassroots police officer in Nanchang, Jiangxi, passed away on July 24, 2023, after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. Just moments before collapsing, Wei Heyou was diligently organizing the day’s tasks for his colleagues, showcasing his unwavering commitment to his duties. Throughout his 29-year police career, Wei Heyou participated in numerous investigations and recovered more than 100 million yuan in stolen goods and losses.
The selfless actions and unwavering dedication of both Jiang Jiuhua and Wei Heyou serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by police officers every day. Their legacy will continue to inspire and motivate their colleagues to uphold the values of service, bravery, and sacrifice in the line of duty.
