Yes, young man lost a leg in an anti-personnel mine

A 20-year-old young man lost one of his legs when he stepped on an anti-personnel mine in the San Agustín district, municipality of Sipí.

The incident occurred when he was going with several friends to a soccer field in the neighboring town of Brisas.

His mother, Juana Asprilla, said that the young man works in a bakery and studies at the Technological University of Chocó. He was transferred to the San Francisco de Quibdó hospital where his right leg was amputated.

The mayor of Sipí, Jairo Murillo Bedoya, denounces that his municipality is contaminated by explosive mines and asks the national government for an urgent demining program.

In the area there is a continuous confrontation between members of the ELN and the Gulf Clan.
