A young woman died on Saturday afternoon in an accident during a jumping competition in Flémalle, in the province of Liège. The twenty-year-old died after falling from her horse, the Jump’In riding school and the French-speaking equestrian federation reported.
According to L’Avenir, the horse may have lost its balance after hitting an obstacle. The twenty-year-old woman ended up under the horse and was subsequently trampled. The emergency services arrived on the scene, but the young victim was unable to receive any help and she succumbed to her injuries. The public prosecutor’s office was informed of the accident.
“Even though the competition was not part of the official season, the supervision and safety conditions were met to ensure a smooth running. Despite everything, no one is one hundred percent safe from an accident,” reports the French-speaking equestrian federation. The competition that was to take place all weekend has been stopped out of respect for the relatives.
