15-year-old “edamame” is happy to win Xiamen’s first gold in the National Games

According to Xu Weihua, director of Xiamen Aquatic Center, Huang Qibin is a 15-year-old teenager, currently studying in the third grade of Siming District Union Bilingual School. In the current National Games, he won the championship by 4 points after 8 rounds of competition.
Huang Qibin’s father Huang Wensheng witnessed his son’s victory on the spot. Due to the high risk of this event, athletes under the age of 18 must have a guardian to accompany the competition. Huang Wensheng told reporters that he is an amateur player of hydrofoil kite board, has served as his son’s coach for a long time, and often takes his son to participate in the competition. “The first international competition of’Edamame’ was also participated in Weifang. We have come here four times before. Weifang is a blessed place for our father and son.”
“Edamame” is Huang Qibin’s nickname, as his father and teammates call him.
Regardless of his young age, “Edamame” is a “veteran” who has learned kitesurfing for 8 years and has rich experience in competitions. Since participating in the Asian Kiteboard Championships in 2018, he has achieved good results in many domestic and foreign competitions. In this year’s National Kiteboard Championship, he won three championships alone.
It is understood that the hydrofoil kite board level has been included in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. According to Huang Wensheng, “Edamame” is currently the “male number one” in the domestic project, and the goal is definitely the Paris Olympics in three years.
