49ers and Chiefs in the Super Bowl

The San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs are in the National Football Leagueā€™s Super Bowl. Against the Detroit Lions led by German-American pass receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, the 49ers turned around a 17-point deficit in the second half on Sunday evening and won 34:31. As defending champions, the Chiefs had previously beaten the Baltimore Ravens 17:10.

In Las Vegas on February 11th there will be a repeat of the Super Bowl from four years ago. In Miami, the Chiefs prevailed 31:20 and won their first title with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs have been to the Super Bowl two more times since then and won the title again a year ago in Phoenix. For the 49ers it is the first participation since the loss against Kansas City and the first with Brock Purdy as quarterback.

For the St. Brown Lions, a strong season ended in dramatic fashion. In California, the Lions dominated the first half, the hosts seemed at a loss. But the Lions lost the thread in the third quarter. Josh Reynolds dropped good passes twice.

Probably the decisive scene of the game was a long pass from 49ers quarterback Purdy immediately before the second touchdown. Lions defender Kindle Vildor almost intercepted the pass but hit his helmet. From there it jumped into the air and Brandon Aiyuk caught it 51 yards short of the end zone.
