The host turns the game in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup against Senegal. At first the Ivory Coast quickly fell behind, but shortly before the end they managed to equalize. A former Bundesliga professional misses in the penalty shootout.

Hosts Ivory Coast beat Senegal 5-4 on penalties in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations. After regular time and extra time the score was 1:1 (0:1, 1:1). Former Mainz player Moussa Niakhaté was the only shooter to miss a banny on Monday evening at the Stade Charles Konan in Yamoussoukro. His shot hit the post. Franck Kessié (84th minute) had previously saved the Ivorians into extra time with a late penalty goal and also scored the last and decisive attempt in the penalty shootout.

Senegal had already taken the lead in the third minute through Habib Diallo, and the preparatory work for the goal came from ex-Bayern professional Sadio Mané.
