Al-Khelaifi and Leonardo against the referee: UEFA opens an investigation into the excesses of the PSG president and ds after elimination with Real Madrid

PSG risks consequences after the reaction of its president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, and of the ds Leonardo, protagonists after the elination in the Champions League against Real Madrid with their harsh protests against the referee. Uefa has in fact opened disciplinary proceedings against the two, and is preparing to examine the referee’s report but also any videos or testimonies. At the end of the match Al-Khelaifi and Leonardo would go to referee Makkelie’s dressing room, protesting aggressively for some of his decisions.

The Dutch referee is especially criticized for the lack of whistle on the occasion of Benzema’s intervention on Donnarumma, the one that ‘forces’ the goalkeeper to make the mistake that starts the 1-1 action. The two managers, according to the Spanish press, “showed aggressive behavior and tried to enter the referees’ dressing room”. In his reconstruction, moreover, the referee Makkelie added that after asking them to leave, “they blocked the door and the president intentionally hit the flag of one of the assistants, ending up breaking it”.

Version disputed by the Parisian club: according to an inside source, Leonardo and president Al-Khelaifi wanted to speak with the referee and insisted when he refused. The tones turned on when they realized that the scene had been filmed using a mobile phone, but in the end “PSG would have sent an employee of the club to apologize to the referees and to Real Madrid”.
